How Made4Bharat Verifies Made-in-India Products
Made4Bharat is a discovery aid, not a certification body. We label products Verified, Partial, or Unverified using marketplace country-of-origin fields, catalog evidence, and manufacturer vs packer text when available.
Step 1 — Country of origin
We read marketplace Country of Origin fields on Amazon.in and Flipkart listings. Seller-declared CoO is useful but incomplete — alone it usually supports a Partial label, not full Verified.
Step 2 — Manufacturer
When Legal Metrology or product-detail declarations name a manufacturer, we use the manufacturer name and address as stronger evidence of where the finished good is made.
Step 3 — Packer / importer
An Indian packer or importer on the label does not mean the product was manufactured in India. We separate packer/importer from manufacturer whenever both are present.
Step 4 — Brand information
Brand ownership and headquarters are a separate signal from manufacture. Indian brand ≠ Made in India. Foreign brand ≠ never assembled in India. We show brand context alongside origin when available.
Step 5 — Supporting evidence
We also use curated Made-in-India catalog rows, GS1 barcode prefix 890 as an Indian registrant signal (never enough alone for Verified manufacture), MCA/company hints where available, and manual overrides for known bad CoO.
Step 6 — Conflicting evidence
Ambiguous text such as “China or India,” missing CoO, or manufacturer vs packer disagreements lead to Partial, Unverified, or Origin unknown — not a Verified claim.
Step 7 — Confidence classification
Verified means strong India manufacture evidence (typically catalog/override with clear India CoO, or scored Legal Metrology confirmation). Partial means a weaker or incomplete India signal. Unverified / Origin unknown means missing, foreign, or candidate live rows without proven CoO. Candidate marketplace hits are never shown as verified Made in India.
Important distinctions
Indian brand ≠ Made in India. Made in India ≠ 100% Indian components. Packaging in India ≠ manufacture in India. Made4Bharat is a discovery aid — not a government certification authority.
Verification dates
“Last verified” is the date we last read the listing or catalog row. Live marketplace data is refreshed when you search; catalog items are reviewed on a rolling basis. If something looks wrong, use Report incorrect info on any product card or email report@made4bharat.com.
What does Made4Bharat do?
Made4Bharat helps you discover products with Made-in-India signals across major marketplaces. We surface country-of-origin data, brand context, and verification dates so you can decide with more confidence.
How does Made4Bharat verify country of origin?
We use marketplace listing metadata from Amazon and Flipkart, Legal Metrology manufacturer vs packer fields when available, our curated Made-in-India catalog, GS1 890 as a supporting registrant signal, and cached search results. When origin is ambiguous, we label it clearly and ask you to verify on the retailer page.
What is the difference between country of origin and Indian-owned brand?
These are different signals. A product can be assembled in India while the brand is headquartered abroad. Conversely, an Indian brand may source components globally. Made4Bharat shows both: where the listing says the product is made, and whether the brand is Indian-owned.
Does barcode 890 mean Made in India?
No. GS1 prefix 890 indicates an India company prefix (registrant). It supports an Indian brand/registrant signal but is not enough alone for Verified India manufacture.
How accurate is the origin data on Made4Bharat?
Marketplace country-of-origin fields can be incomplete, outdated, or ambiguous. Made4Bharat is a discovery aid — not a certification authority. Always confirm origin, warranty, and seller details on the marketplace before you buy.
How often is Made4Bharat data updated?
Live marketplace data is refreshed when you search. Catalog items are reviewed on a rolling basis. Each product card shows a last-verified date indicating when we last read the listing.
